History
Keaton Beach was originally owned by Captain Brown in
the 1800's. He had a successful business in the turpentine and
sawmill business. The community consisted of two houses, a
sawmill, church, commissary, worker's homes and what became known as
"The Old Pavilion".
"The Old Pavilion" was constructed in the
early 1900's. It had a small fish house with docks connecting to
"The Old Pavilion". It was used for a meeting place for
family and friends. During the day it was used to repair mullet
nets and at night for entertainment such as country bands playing for square dances.
The "No Name Storm of the Century" was the buildings demise
along with the motel, but the house, foundation and posts are still
there and still offers the most unobstructed, breathtaking sunsets
around. |
