The natural, unspoiled beauty of The Original Florida creates a perfect setting for the outdoor enthusiast. Featuring a multitude of public lands available for recreational opportunities, nearly anyone can find something they enjoy doing. The vast natural resources of the area provide an excellent setting for hiking, biking, horseback riding, wildlife viewing, golfing, and just plain old relaxing.

Taylor County had several watermills operating from about 1870 until the end of the nineteenth century.  A group of local explorers recently discovered the remains of the Murphy Watermill on the Steinhatchee River.  The floor of the mill was cut into the rock of the creek bed.  Come explore Taylor's good nature with us.

Hiking
Hiking is a popular activity in The Original Florida. Public and private trails are available year-round for both the day-hiker and the overnight backpacker. Trails meandering through natural areas provided in Florida State Parks, the Osceola National Forest and other publicly owned lands provide an excellent setting for wildlife viewing, photography, and nature study.

Biking

Biking has become a popular pastime in the north central Florida area. Fat tire bicycling is especially enjoyable in the area with a vast array of trails available on public lands. The many lightly traveled scenic roads in The Original Florida also provide a safe venue for road cycling.
